Radiofrequency thermocoagulation

Thermocoagulation is a technique based on coagulating the joint nerve (by applying warmth with a radiofrequency electrode) with the goal of pain relief.

Radiofrequency thermocoagulation has multiple uses, particularly noteworthy in the treatment of:

  • · Trigeminal neuralgia
    · Low back pain (especially facet joint disorders)
    · Cervical syndrome (facet joint disorders, cervicogenic cephalalgia and cervicobrachialgia)
    · Intercostal neuralgia

This treatment should not be performed without the previous evaluation of the etiology of the symptoms which would be demonstrated by the symptomatic relief after making facet blockades.

Facet thermocoagulation is a simple and safe technique, newly emerging and still relatively under-publicized.
