Prevention and full assistanceof the renal function
We provide you with a full, high quality assistance and the ease to access to other services of the Hospital to assure continued support.
The staff that will take care of you has extensive experience in the diagnose and treatment of renal disease, and works coordinately with the rest of the departments in the hospital to assure full assistance. Because of being in a hospital setting makes easier to set up all the necessary tests in our laboratory, like imaging testing (abdominal and renal ultrasound, computerized tomography, CT angiography and RM angiography); this will save you any further shifts. We are permanently connected with our cardiology and neurology departments, which will be responsible for the evaluation of the specific tests (echocardiogram, supra-aortic trunks ultrasound…)
We also try to prevent the cardiovascular disease, we offer nursery cures and we also have a dietetics department, which gives support to the treatment of many different diseases by designing specific diets for the renal, obese or hypertensive patient.
We treat, among many other diseases, arterial hypertension, renal failure (acute or chronic), glomerular diseases (nephritic and nephrotic syndrome). In the nephrology department we attend both younger (over 16 years old) and adult patients.
We study the patient that could need a renal transplant and we prepare them for this process.
Diagnosis, study and treatment of arterial hypertension
Arterial hypertension (AHP) is one of the main risk factors that boost the chances of having cardiovascular diseases, and the biggest cause of high morbidity and mortality in the developed world. AHP affects one third of the population between 35 and 65 years old and more than 50% of elderly people.
Diagnose of glomerular diseases
Once detected a glomerular disease due to renal insufficiency, proteinuria or hematuria, we recommend to do a percutaneous echodirected renal biopsy, with 24 hours of hospital admission if there are no complications. With the anatomopathological result we point out the specific treatment and it monitoring. The anatomopathological study is performed at the servei d’Anatomia Patològica of the Bellvitge Universitary Hospital, a superb service in Catalonia and the Spanish State.
Nephrologic nursery consultation
This consultation is recommended for patients with advanced chronic renal insufficiency (phases 4 and 5).
Hemodialysis
Our hemodialysis department is integrated to the Palamós hospital, and is composed of a medical staff of 4 specialized nephrologists and 11 graduated nurses.
We take care of renal disease patients, and we offer them to enjoy some days of rest in a privileged area such as the Costa Brava.
