Chronic constipation

Constipation is a common problem that affects an increasing amount of people as we speak, because of an unhealthy diet and not enough exercise. It roughly affects a 20% of the general populace, and it is far more frequent in women.

Usually, what we recommend is to eat more fiber: vegetables, salads, legumes, fruit, dry fruit, whole grains… drinking two liters of liquids each day also helps, whether it comes from water, soup, infusions; and of course more exercise.

The flora of the person is also responsible. A lot of people has what we define as a putrefactive flora instead of a fermented flora (healthy). This is because of people abusing refined sugars and animal protein, instead of eating food which favors the fermented one: vegetables, germinates, fermented food, whole grain, fruit, dry fruit and oilseeds. The quality and composition of our intestinal flora will depend on our food choice and diet.

The healthiest diet for our balance is the most prominent through history, long before the civilized societies: generous amount of vegetables, stem and root, whole grains and fruits as our carbohydrate source, fiber, vitamins and minerals; a small quantity of protein from quality meat and fish, and another small dose of fat from seeds and dry fruit. If the constipation does not improve with diet, you need to seek your specialist.
