Endoscopy or ultrasound endoscopy integrates in the same screening the ultrasound and endoscopy screening. Digestive endoscopy is recommended to evaluate injuries previously detected and characterized by other diagnose imaging (endoscopy, echography, CAT) in digestive tract diseases, because it allows to visualize not only the intraluminal part, but also its relationship with the five different layers of the gastrointestinal wall.

The main use of echoendoscopy is the local staging of tumors (both benign and malignant) growing in the mediastinum, pancreas region, bile ducts and pelvic cavity. It can also be used to watch and characterize other, non-tumorous, injuries close to the digestive tract. Throughout the use of an endoscope and a special needle we can obtain the material we need to study it with the microscope and give a proper diagnosis.
