Auricle surgery

The surgery of the auricle (otoplasty) enables shape correction, but specially a very pronounced ear disposition outside of the head. The prominence of the auricle (protruding ears) is a question that lots of parents make for their children. In fact, otoplasty is a far more common procedure in children than it is in adults. We can also correct voluminous ears or strange shapes that makes children worry. Usually the auricle develops much faster than the rest of the body, explaining why the majority of the procedures are done before the child is 15 years old. Obviously, otoplasty can also be performed on adults.

The procedure consists in sculpting the cartilage, discarding a part or reshaping it differently. In the case of protruding ears, both auricles are treated so symmetry can be achieved in this part of the face –that gives us much more character than we think of at first.

Otoplasty can also be performed to increase the size of the auricle in cases of microtia (insufficient development of the ear) or to repair teared earlobes.
